Welcome to Walkabout Woods, our interactive art project! We built the woods for Burning Man 2011, an amazing free arts festival of radical self-expression that takes place every year in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada .
Back in March, April, and May of 2011, we ran a Kickstarter.com fundraising campaign and successfully raised over $8000 to bring the Woods into existence. We are so very grateful for all 164 backers of this project! Wow… so many people believed in our vision, we had to be sure to make it extra awesome! And did we ever? Visit our blog to see updates.
“But what is Walkabout Woods?” I hear you asking. Well…Walkabout woods is a large, collaborative, interactive art installation in three parts: The Forest, where strange things happen, The Boiler Room, where even stranger things happen and The Pyramid, where you try to make sense of what just happened, or not as the case may be. Check out “Our Philosophy” for a more detailed analysis of what the Woods are saying. You can see a wonderful movie about Walkabout Woods on the Kickstarter site or here on our Blog.
Which brings us to the Blog – here you can follow the story as we go through the process of creating and showcasing this large installation. So far we’ve brought the Woods to over 10 events, most notable of which are Lightning in a Bottle and Burning Man. Up next is Escape from Wonderland by Insomniac Events.
And who are we? Fishbon, a collaborative, event lab, based in Santa Barbara, California. The about page will tell you more. Of note is that Fishbon is a non-profit organization, a 501(c)(3), meaning all donations are tax deductible.
